Job Summary:

The Wound Care Nurse communicates and collaborates closely with physicians, outpatient and inpatient nurse managers, other Wound healing Center (WHC) staff and other members of the health care team to provide consistent quality of care for patients with wounds.


The RN Wound Care is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.  Coordinates and provides age-specific care for persons with bowel and urinary diversions, draining wounds, fistulas, pressure and vascular ulcers and incontinence.  Educates staff, families and patients and the community about the specialized care of selected disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary and integumentary systems.  Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.  Collects data for care improvement opportunities.

What you will do in this role: 

  • Assesses, plans and evaluates patient care needs
  • Prioritizes patient care based on acuity level and available resources
  • Carries out physician orders
  • Assess, plan and evaluate patient care needs including obtaining patient history and assessing for risk factors
  • Manage the patients pain
  • Assists physician during examination, treatment and procedures
  • Administers prescribed medications and monitors vital signs
  • Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well coordinated patient care
  • Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems
  • Instructs and educates patients and families
  • Assesses and coordinates patients discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team

 

 Position Requirements: 

  • FL RN Licensure, or
  • Recognized Compact Licensure (submitted to Florida State Licensing Requirements, including/not limited to ongoing eligibility and duration provisions)
  • Current BLS Certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience in the acute care setting
  • Wound Care experience and/or certification (WOCN) preferred.
  • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds
