SCHEDULE: PRN/Per Diem

St. David's South Austin Medical Center is an acute care facility with 316 beds, offering a range of complex specialties and sub-specialties, including a nationally accredited oncology program with the areas only adult bone marrow transplant program; a trauma program that includes all of the capabilities and programmatic elements of a Level II trauma center to treat the most severely injured and critical patients; a comprehensive cardiac program; full-service maternity and newborn care with Level I and II nurseries; and two full-service emergency centers in the communities of Bee Cave and Bastrop.

Position Description

The cardiac rehabilitation nurse is a registered nursewho possesses advanced knowledge and skill in the area of cardiac nursing. Makes decisions of moderate difficulty. Handles confidential information regardingpatient records. Operates and analyzestelemetry cardiac monitors, exercise equipment and patient evaluationtools. May be required to make criticaldecisions concerning the initiative of emergency medical procedures.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in the delivery of Cardiac Rehab Services:

-Monitors telemetry during outpatient exercise sessions.

-Assures that exercise area is set up and orderly, bothbefore and after sessions.

-Discusses patient progress with attending physician andprimary physician as necessary.

-Meets regularly with each patient, formally andinformally as needed, to assess progress in program and provide appropriatecardiac education.

-Communicates problems or concerns of the patient to thereferring physicians, by phone and fax, that occur during an exercise session.

Responds to referrals and begins the process for eachpatient entry as necessary.

Begins the chart process, request of medical records,chart label, and all entry documentation.

Initiates advanced cardiac life support measuresaccording to SAMC protocols in the event of a cardiac emergency.

Qualifications

Education

Required: Graduation from an NLN school of professional nursing
Preferred: Completion of or actively pursuing a BSN degree

Experience

Required: A minimum of2 yearsexperience as a staff nurse in an acute care setting

Good understanding of EKG interpretation and critical thinking skills to perform assessments on cardiac patients.

License & Certifications

Required: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas. If Compact License, Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
