The James J. Peters VA Medical Center, Bronx VAMC affiliated with the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine (NYC), numerous Nursing Academic Affiliations and the Hospital for Special Surgery, is located in the NW Bronx on a self-contained campus easily accessible by car (free parking for eligible employees) and public transportation.

 

We are currently recruiting for 3- FULL TIME Licensed Practical Nurses GS-620, for the Community Living Center in the Extended Care Program.

 

1st Area of consideration is Current Permanent James J. Peters VAMC Employees, 2nd Area of Consideration is Current Permanent VA Employees, 3rd Area of Consideration is US Citizens

 

Tour of Duty: Two (2) LPNs – Monday -Friday, Night Shift 11:30pm-8am- Alternating Weekends and Holidays, One (1) LPN- Monday- Friday, Day Shift 7:30am-4pm- Alternating Weekends and Holidays

 

*Grade and Salary Will be determined by the Licensed Practical Nurses Professional Standards Board for new appointees.   Current employees will be reassigned at their current grade and step. *

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Long Term Care/Geriatrics, Experience with Vent Care, Experience with Hospice/Palliative Care.

 

Duties: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works in the Community Living Center under the supervision of an RN and/or MD for the administration and evaluation of nursing care delivery to assigned patients. The LPN participates in the interdisciplinary team in the development, implementation and evaluation of the patients' treatment plan while utilizing patient centered care. Interacts with patients in various groups in accordance with the treatment plan; observes, identifies and responds to patients' needs for nursing, medication and equipment-assisted care. Must successfully and consistently demonstrate the exercise of independent technical judgment (without the need for readily available supervision) and possess a comprehensive and thorough working knowledge of the most complex or difficult practices and procedures within the LPN scope of nursing practice. The incumbent will also administer vaccinations, complete screenings, take vital signs, ensure delivery of excellent, safe, patient centered care, collaborate with various providers and Registered Nurses and comply with documentation standards.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
