The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont (UVM) and the University of Vermont Health Network seeks an academic hematopathologist to serve as Director of Hematopathology and the Medical Director of the Hematology section of the clinical laboratory. This is a full-time position with a faculty appointment on the Clinical Scholar Pathway (non-tenure) at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor rank as appropriate based on previous experience and academic rank. The successful candidate will work in the Division of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Vermont Medical Center as part of the UVM Health Network. The applicant must be board certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Hematopathology. Strong diagnostic skills are essential, and at least 7 years of post-fellowship clinical and administrative experience is preferred.

Our hematopathologists review approximately 450 bone marrow biopsies, 550 tissue specimens, 1700 flow cytometry cases, and 2000 peripheral blood smears per year. The candidate should possess strong leadership skills and experience, as the Director will: 1) work collaboratively with medical directors of flow cytometry, cytogenetics, and genomic medicine; 2) provide medical direction for the Hematology section of the clinical laboratory, working closely with the section’s supervisor and technical specialist; and 3) collaborate with the director of the hematopathology fellowship program.

The UVM Health Networks spans the academic medical center and five community hospitals, and the Director of Hematopathology will help lead coordination of hematopathology and hematology services across the network. The candidate should be an enthusiastic teacher and have scholarly interests and accomplishments in clinical, translational and/or health services research.
