The Department of Surgery, Section of General Surgery is seeking a dynamic, experienced surgeon to be the Director of Emergency General Surgery in the Division of Acute Care Surgery.  The candidate will be hired on a clinical track position. Applicants must be Board certified by the American Board of Surgery in general surgery and surgical critical care.  Requirements include demonstrated skills in emergency general surgery, trauma surgery, and surgical critical care. Candidate must demonstrate attributes and interest in carrying out the educational mission of the division.

The Department of Surgery at the University of Michigan, founded in 1850, is nationally recognized for excellence in patient care, education, and research.  The hospital is an American College of Surgeons-verified Level 1 Trauma Center (adult and pediatric), and the state's only American Burn Association-verified Burn Center.

They also direct the Surgical Intensive Care Unit as well as the Trauma-Burn Intensive Care Unit.  The Division has major academic resources with a combined research portfolio of over $30 million over the past five years.

The Michigan Trauma Quality Improvement Program and the Michigan Acute Care Surgery Collaborative are both collaborative quality initiatives (CQI) sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. The University of Michigan Division of Acute Care Surgery serves as the coordinating center for both of these programs. CQI’s seek to improve patient care in a collaborative environment that relies on data collection, examination of care provided, feedback of results, and targeted interventions to standardize processes of care.

The academic rank for this position will be commensurate with the applicant’s credentials.  Please send your curriculum vitae to:
