POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the general supervision of the units Director or designee the Parent Education Coordinator is responsible for the planning, staffing, scheduling and organizing all community parent education classes.

• Assumes responsibility for the overall quality of the curriculum provided. Provides evidence-based information anchored in current research.
• Serves as a resource person for patients, community and staff.
• Collaborates with physician offices to ensure that educational needs are met.
• Is able to step in to teach any of the scheduled community classes.
• Supports outreach function for the organization.
• Makes decisions regarding activities within these areas based on Administrative Operational Standards, Nursing Administrative Standards, Human Resource Standards, and Standards of Care for the unit, in collaboration with other members of the management team.

SCHEDULE: Part-Time   Shift: Days/Evenings Occasional Weekends

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum of two (2) years experience in hospital education or childbirth department

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Current California Registered Nurse License.
• Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR card.
• Childbirth Educator certification desired.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; BSN desired.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

• Principles and methods of adult education
• Refined written and verbal communication
• Ability to plan, organize, control and evaluate
• Strong customer service
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow up
• Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
