Cancer Physician in Chief,

USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center

The Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of Southern California (USC Norris) invites applications and nominations for the position of Cancer Physician in Chief.

USC Norris has been an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center since 1973, having been one of the original eight to achieve the distinction. From the beginning, it represented an exemplary synthesis of basic science, translational research, and clinical care. USC Norris has continued to thrive and the Center’s last core grant renewal in 2015 received the best score it has ever achieved. Its U.S. News & World Report ranking for adult cancer programs has risen from #48 to #21 since 2013. Using a multidisciplinary team approach, the more than 178 dedicated physicians and scientists of USC Norris treat and prevent cancer by developing new therapies, enhancing existing protocols, and providing personalized, precision care that is the most advanced available. As an integral part of Keck School of Medicine of USC, USC Norris offers access to approximately 180 active, innovative clinical trials (in 2018) and extensive patient education and community outreach.

The Cancer Physician in Chief (CPiC) will be a nationally recognized cancer physician and he/she will work dyadically with the Executive Administrator of the Service line to create the best opportunity for transformational change in operations and patient experience at the Norris and Keck hospitals. The CPiC will chair the Cancer Service Line Executive Committee, ensuring a coherent and effective approach to the clinical and operational issues impacting USC Norris patients and providers.   The Chiefs of the Hematology and Oncology Divisions will report directly to the CPiC for all clinical matters.

The CPiC will provide strategic, operational, and quality leadership for the clinical activities of USC Norris. He/she will work collaboratively with the Center’s many stakeholders to improve patient access and achieve multidisciplinary, patient-centered care across all organizational boundaries; ensure that the Cancer Center’s clinical efforts are strategically positioned in the market to expand patient volumes; align the resources of the Cancer Center, including physicians, staff, facilities, and infrastructure, with clinical demand; and ensure that Cancer Center operations are efficient and effective, appropriately supporting the clinical and academic missions of the institution.
