The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) has an outstanding opportunity for a Basic Scientist, Division of Transplant Surgery in the Department of Surgery. We are seeking applicants with a strong background in transplantation immunobiology and ischemia-reperfusion injury at the tenure track level. The candidate will be joining an established basic science research laboratory involved in a multi-animal (small and large) model of hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury. Specifically, we are exploring the epigenetic changes related to hepatocyte mitochondrial injury and dysfunction. In addition, this basic science laboratory is fully integrated with the Division of Transplant Surgery’s clinical and translational science research infrastructure and program, facilitating collaboration among investigators in these three areas of transplantation research.

Candidates must have a doctorate degree (Ph.D.), a strong publication record, and established funding if at the Associate Professor or Professor level. Successful Assistant Professor candidates will be expected to obtain extramural funding within three years. The successful candidate will join a collaborative research community with strong institutional support. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience. An excellent compensation and recruitment package will be available for the faculty member.

MCW is a private, national, freestanding medical school that is widely respected as an academically productive center for the education and training of physicians and scientists, development of graduate and undergraduate medical education programs, basic and translational research initiatives, and excellence in multidisciplinary clinical programs. It is ranked as one of the nation’s top 50 academic research institutions.

The Department of Surgery is comprised of 10 clinical divisions and a Division of Education and Division of Research. The Department has a significant number of clinical programs with many regional affiliations and practice location s outside of the metro Milwaukee area. There are 117 faculty (including 105 clinical faculty and 12 basic science faculty). There are 60 trainees in the department’s training programs which include a general surgery residency and ten fellowship programs. Revenue for the 2019-2020 fiscal year was $90M.
