The Division Nephrology in the Department of Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University seeks candidates for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in the non-tenure clinician-educator track. The successful applicant will care for kidney transplant patients on both inpatient and outpatient services at University Hospital. This individual will assume a role as clinician, teacher and clinical or translational scientist with a research program focused in an area related to renal transplantation. We are particularly interested in candidates who seek to develop or extend well funded immunologically based or infectious disease based research programs within Upstate’s collaborative research environment.

Applicants must have an MD or MD/PhD degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education, clinical care, and academic pursuits. Board Certification in Nephrology is required. UNOS transplant certification is highly desirable, as is formal training and fellowship in Transplant Nephrology. Preferred candidates will have completed dedicated subspecialty training in transplant nephrology or will have at least one year experience working as a transplant nephrologist in a busy kidney transplant program. Ideally, this person should have had advanced training in clinical science and a research focus clearly defined by a robust publication and funding record. This position offers an environment where physicians, nurses, surgeons, researchers and specialists are co-located within a consolidated physical setting. Bilingual skills desirable and adjustable hours and creative scheduling possible.

Upstate currently performs on average 120 kidney transplants a year. In addition to a growing pancreas transplant program, infrastructure exists for an Islet Program and, potentially, a Liver Transplant Program. We are committed to an atmosphere of collaboration, academic excellence and continuous improvement.
