General Summary StatementProvides continuing education for the Department of Nursing. Provides education in a variety of formats based on the topic presented and the needs of learners, nursing units, and the organization. Provides programs with PA Nurses Contact Hours. Conducts annual competency assessment sessions for the Department of Nursing. Assists with the coordination of the orientation program for the Department of Nursing. Mentors Department of Nursing employees. Participates in hospital and nursing projects and serves on committees. Teaches American Heart Association (AHA) courses. Must be flexible to work all shifts as needed.\tPrimary \tProvides EPIC training to nursing department staff.\tProvides instruction for nursing department orientation programs including, but not limited to: orientation for nurses, nursing assistants, technicians, unit coordinators, monitor surveillance technicians, behavioral safety assistants, and video monitoring technicians, dysrhythmia, preceptor workshops, and equipment training.\tProvides instruction for BLS and ACLS initial and retraining courses. Performs Lead Instructor role for these courses. \tProvides continuing education, required in-services and competency assessments for the Department of Nursing, and non-nursing departments, as needed.\tAssists medical surgical and telemetry nursing professional development specialists onboard and support their orientee.\t\tOther¢\tAssists with the learning needs assessment of employees in medical surgical and telemetry areas on an ongoing basis via observation, written feedback and communication with Nurse Managers, Directors, staff and hospital personnel.¢\tContributes to the development of new programs/courses as needed and updates courses as needed.¢\tContributes to the Planning of educational programs that align with organizational goals.¢\tDevelops materials that are original and do not violate copyright and are cost appropriate for the program. Demonstrates respect for patient confidentiality when using case studies, and in the preparation of all education materials.¢\t¢\tProvides education as needed in a timely manner for classroom or the clinical area, based on unit needs for the patient or staff learning needs.¢\tSelects appropriate speakers (e.g. physicians, vendor, other professional) for programs and provides program coordination and speaker support.¢\tAdheres to Nursing Professional Development Department, PSNA, and AHA policies for program management.¢\tAttains PSNA contact hours or equivalent certification for RN programs as appropriate for topic and length of program.¢\tMaintains instructor certification for AHA programs.¢\tDemonstrates the ability to effectively teach and communicate to personnel at all education and skill levels.¢\tTeaches classes as the sole Educator, as well as teaches as a member of a team for group projects.¢\tDemonstrates the ability to use a variety of teaching methods both in the classroom and clinical environments.¢\tApplies adult learning principles.¢\tTeaches current standards of Nursing Practice and integrates current CCH Policies and Procedures into curriculum; integrates current Joint Commission and other regulating agencies standards into curriculum.¢\tDistributes course evaluations for participants to rate teaching effectiveness, learners outcomes as well as Educators teaching effectiveness. Uses feedback from these evaluations in future courses.¢\tProvides œreal time unit based education for clinical needs. For example, bedside instruction for nurses using new equipment or doing a procedure for the first time.¢\tFacilitates an environment that supports evidence based practice.¢\t¢\t¢\t¢\t¢\t¢\tEnsures all orientation documentation is completed and turned in to Human Resources, and Nursing Professional Development by the end of orientation. This includes but is not limited to the Initial Competency Assessment and tests or competency assessments completed by the employee during orientation.¢\tCommunicates on an ongoing basis during the orientation period with the orientee, preceptor(s), Nurse Manager, & Director to evaluate progress and learning needs of the new employee, if responsible for orientee management on a unit.¢\tProvides appropriate intervention for orientee performance problems.¢\tSupports newly licensed RNs in the Penn Medicine Nurse Residency Program. Performs responsibilities in the Nurse Residency Program as assigned.¢\tPromotes best practice by demonstrating a commitment to quality patient care and the profession of nursing.¢\tPromotes innovation and creativity in the practice environment.¢\tPromotes staff growth by consulting on clinical, education and professional issues.¢\tPrioritizes and organizes work effectively, meets deadlines, is thorough in project completion.¢\tAccepts constructive feedback about performance or behaviors and shows evidence of change.¢\tDevelops teaching materials that are of professional quality.¢\tAttends assigned committee meetings and contributes to the committees. Serves as Chairperson when appropriate.¢\tCommunicates support of organizational values and strategies.¢\tSupports the following organizational programs: Magnet® , Joint Commission Disease Specific Certification, Nursing Councils.¢\tFacilitates group processes, e.g. committees. Manages resources throughout program programs or projects.¢\tMaintains equipment in working order. Uses equipment appropriately, follows Department policies for equipment and supply use and maintenance.¢\tInspects classroom or area used for program after use to ensure the area is clean and ready for the next user. Restocks handouts and supplies as needed.¢\tProvides assistance to peers, participates in training new Nursing Professional Development Department employees.¢\tDemonstrates creative thinking and problem solving and knows when to seek appropriate consultation. ¢\tPerforms duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures¢\tOther duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Licensure/Certification \nCurrent Pennsylvania RN license is required. Must be certified in Nursing Professional Development, or area of clinical specialty.
