This APP position will be part of the cardiovascular surgery division which provides outpatient care for patients before and after cardiovascular surgery. As an NP/PA on this service you will be part of a high functioning inter-professional team who is responsible for the management of complex cardiovascular surgery patients. Responsibilities for the NP/PA who joins our team will include outpatient management, clinical decision making, management of postoperative complications, care coordination, team collaboration, and education of patients, family and staff. In addition, the provider will participate in research as applicable, ensure regulatory compliance, document care according to standards, and prescribe in accordance with their collaborative agreement and State regulations. The position may be called on to perform preop consultations in the cath lab area as well.The hours for this role will be 1 x 8 hour shift per week alternating with 2 x 8 hours shifts the second week of the pay period. Schedules will be developed in collaboration with the clinical coordinator and other APPs.All NP/PA's function under the guidelines as designed by Penn Medicine medical staff and are credentialed through that body. The NP/PA will be held accountable through a formal job description, delineation of privileges, and through a Collaborative/Written Practice Agreement with their supervising physician. All clinical work hours and associated requirements will be defined and managed under the direction of the direct supervisor and within the Human Resource guidelines.The NP/PA will contribute to excellence in education, leadership, professionalism, and clinical practice.All advanced practice providers function under the guidelines as designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body.The ACNP or PA-C hired by the Division of Cardiac Surgery will be held accountable through a formal job description, through the delineation of privileges, and through their agreement with their collaborating physician who has initiated a Collaborative Practice Agreement.All clinical work hours and associated requirements will be defined and managed under the direction of the collaborating physician/division designee, and within the Human Resource guidelines.In this role, responsibilities include evaluating patients preoperatively and postoperatively at PPMC. This role has both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities. Inpatient responsibilities include pre-operative consults and post-operative surgical care / consult.This position has a dual reporting structure. The ACNP or PA-C will report to the Business Director for Cardiac Surgery who will be responsible for the administrative oversight of the position and the Human Resource issues relating to daily job performance.In addition, a collaborating physician will be identified from the Division of Cardiac Surgery who will be responsible for direct oversight of the clinical role and lead orientation to the clinical unit and ongoing assessment of the clinical skills. The identified collaborating physician will evaluate the APNPs Clinical Skills and Competence as part of their annual performance review.
